The Music Bank

Karaoke is very popular in the Philippines. Why? Because We love to sing. Then, why Filipinos love to sing? It’s simply because we love music. In fact, most Pinoys are great singers.

Even if Japanese, are the ones credited for coining the term “karaoke” (from “kara” meaning empty and “ōkesutora” meaning orchestra), it was actually a Filipino who invented karaoke singing, literally. Roberto del Rosario is a musician and music teacher who developed an advanced sing-along-system which was the combination of a music player, voice taping mechanism, tuner and mixer. This sing-along-system (SAS) allowed his students to sing with the recorded music using a microphone and an amplified speaker.

I think one of the reasons why we are one of the happiest people in the world is because we can easily find contentment without any finer things in life, one of which is singing in a karaoke(locally termed the videoke) regardless if we can’t sing perfectly in tune. It’s all about happiness and celebration. Those machines exist everywhere, where there is little entertainment, five pesos or a single token per song at the videoke is indeed affordable.

Today, there are KTVs,  these are the karaoke establishment that consist of multiple rooms containing karaoke equipment, usually rented out for time periods. One of the most often KTV I spend time in is in the Music Bank,  located in HK Sun Plaza, Macapagal, Pasay City. We do celebrating birthdays here with my friends.and sometimes just a leissure, spending quality time bonding with friends.
